Beautiful Weather Ahead!

Central Minnesota Weather Discussion 05/10/2024 By Aidan Cera  Good afternoon central Minnesota! It has been and will most likely continue to be an absolutely beautiful day outside with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 70ºF's! It is a bit breezy out there though, with winds shifting to the NW as a weak cold front passes through the area. There will be a small chance of an afternoon thunderstorm or too, but nothing widespread by any means.  Looking out the window right now, we have winds shifting to more of a northwest direction as a cold front currentling passing over the Twin Cities makes its way through. A cumulus field is beginning to develop behind this cold front and make its way southward (can see a few fair weather cumulus outside my window as I type this). These cumulus will stick around for the rest of the day and may become more agitated as the day progresses and daytime heating destabilizes the atmosphere. There might be just enough destabilization for a few o

Rain For A Day Then Sun For A Day On Repeat

Central Minnesota Weather Discussion 04/30/24 by Aidan Cera Rain Rolls Through Tonight  Good evening central Minnesota! Hope you are having success at dodging those drops that are coming down at quite a clip at times. This rain is part of a extensive band of showers and thunderstorms stretching nearly from Canada all the way down to Mexico! These showers and storms will continue to make their way eastward through the evening as a negatively tilted shortwave trough moves east as well. Thinking there will be a seperate broken line of storms that will develop behind this first round of rain given remaining instability and moisture but not everyone will see this rain.                  Personal photo of altcomulus clouds being churned by gravity waves rippling across the atmosphere from nearby rain activity.  Skies should clear out as the night progresses, with lows falling into the mid 40ºF's for most of central Minnesota.  Case of the Deja Vu's  As alluded to in the title, we are

Nice Weather Followed by the Rain Train

04/25/24 Weather Outlook for Central Minnesota by Aidan Cera  Good afternoon central Minnesota! There is quite a bit to talk about here locally and nationally with the weather over the next few days, so figured I would just dive right into it and go from there this time around. Beautiful Weather Today Looking out the window at the current conditions, we have plenty of sunshine across central Minnesota with winds a bit breezy out of the Southeast between 15–25 mph. Temperatures are solidly in the mid to upper 60ºF's across all of central Minnesota with even a 70ºF or two in Renville county. Thinking highs for most of the area today will be near 70ºF based on current observations, and those winds are going to keep on whipping as the pressure gradient associated with our incoming storm system tightens. Not expecting any rain today, cloud coverage should increase by the end of the day today though as moisture in the upper and mid levels of the atmosphere begins to surge northward.  Rai

More Rain Ahead You Say?

April 23rd Weather Discussion  by Aidan Cera Good evening central Minnesota! Aidan Cera here with a look ahead at the weather we can expect over the coming days. Fortunately, my schedule has been freeing up and will continue to do so more the immediate future so am looking to post more frequent updates.  Today was a fantastic spring day across central Minnesota, with temperatures nearing 60ºF for highs in some spots. There were a few passing showers during this afternoon as those cumulus clouds grew thick enough to produce precipitation, courtesy of daytime destabilization along with forcing from a cold front passing through. Most locations didn't pick up much to any rain at all, while some locations such as St. Cloud likely received near a tenth of an inch of rain. Nothing too noteworthy but rain is rain and any rain we get this time of year is good for us!  Speaking of rain, some out there have no doubt noticed we have a really good chance at seeing rain on Friday. There is very

Winter Storm Potential Discussion

A Powerful Winter Storm On the Horizon(?) 03/22/2024 by Aidan Cera Good evening central Minnesota, future undergraduate meteorologist Aidan Cera here with your latest weather discussion regarding the potential for a potent winter storm to impact our area over the next few days. A Look Back At Last Night's Snowfall An Alberta Clipper type winter storm made it's way across the Upper Midwest yesterday and brought a fairly decent amount of snow to central Minnesota. The heaviest totals noted were along a very narrow corridor starting in southeastern Pope County extending almost due east just south of St. Cloud, MN and into northwestern WI. Most locations received at least 2 inches of snow, with the highest amounts being 8" where the narrow, heavy band tracked.  While much of the snow did melt today, overall it was MUCH needed, as most of Minnesota is still in a moderate to severe drought carrying over from last summer and the lack of any significant precipitation since Decembe

September 23rd Severe Weather Discussion

Central Minnesota Severe Weather Discussion For September 23rd, 2023 By Aidan Cera  Figure 1. Weather Prediction Center 00Z 23 September Outlook Issued 21Z Friday 22 September. Good evening central Minnesota. It has been quite sometime since I have made any posts here. My course work for my final year of undergraduate school has been quite demanding, on top of formulating a senior project, forecasting for US Bank Stadium and working 2 jobs. My goal was to upload posts whenever significant weather would be a possibility. Sticking to that promise to myself, tonight is one of those nights where a blog post is likely warranted. Figure 2. Storm Prediction Center Outlook for Saturday, 23 September, 2023.  The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for portions of the forecast area for tomorrow, Saturday September 23rd. The severe weather hazards are large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a tornado or two.  Talking synoptics, an area of low pressure currently located over Wyoming

August 23rd Central Minnesota Weather Discussion

August 23rd Central Minnesota Weather Discussion  By Aidan Cera   Fig. 1. National Weather Service Twin Cities weather graphic for the next few days weather. Good evening central Minnesota! The last few days have been downright awful in terms of the heat and the humidity. Highs on Tuesday approached 100F with dew points approaching 80F. Today, the stratus deck held on much later in the day which prevented as much solar radiation from warning the surface. Thus, we were cooler in terms of temperatures but still extremely humid. Thankfully, this cooler weather has allowed the excessive heat warnings and heat advisories to expire as I send this post out.  Tonight, we are still looking at a downright warm and humid setup. Lows will likely only get down into the upper to mid 60F's with dew points in that range as well. This will likely lead more ptachy to widespread fog overnight through mid morning on Thursday. This fog will likely burn off mid morning and lead to a stratus deck that w
