Warmer Temperatures Arrive in Time For Meteorological Summer

Image
05/30/24 Weather Outlook Southeastern Wisconsin Aidan Cera The last 2 days have been absolutely fantastic across southeastern Wisconsin, with plenty of sunshine, pleasant temperatures yet rather chilly nights! Lows across southeastern Wisconsin dipped as low as the mid 30ºF's near West Bend, WI and across our Kettle Moraine areas, which is quite remarkable for this time of year.    Taking a look at satellite and station plot data, there is not a cloud to be found across the skies of southeastern Wisconsin this afternoon courtesy of high pressure being almost directly overhead. Winds are also very light out of the east which has allowed that lake breeze to kick in as expected. Temperatures are generally in the mid 60ºF's near the lakeshore, with low 70ºF's inland out near Watertown, WI.  Looking further to the west, there are some high cirrus type clouds gradually making their way east as we progress through the afternoon. These clouds are associated with a negativel...

Rinse and Repeat Today, Drier Weather To Carry the Rest of the Week

Image
05/28/24 Weather Outlook Southeastern Wisconsin   It has been a beautiful start to today across southeastern Wisconsin this morning, with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures. We have already warmed into the low to mid 60ºF's lakeside, with slightly cooler temperatures inland where more clouds have been hanging around this morning.     Skies are fairly clear across most of southeastern Wisconsin this morning, with perhaps a slight increase in the cloud cover across our northern counties. We have a few upper level clouds streaming in from the west associated with an upper level disturbance swinging through. This disturbance is also kicking off some rain showers across eastern Iowa and Minnesota into northwestern Wisconsin currently.  As we progress through today, an upper level disturbance currently located over Duluth with slide across Wisconsin. This disturbance is expected to provide plenty of forcing for vertical motions today. Moisture profiles are...

Soggy Sunday, Spotty Storms for Memorial Day

Image
05/26/24 Weather Outlook Southeastern Wisconsin by Aidan Cera Memorial Day weekend has been a mixed bag thus far. Saturday was fantastic across southeastern Wisconsin with mostly sunny skies and temperatures well in the 70ºF's away from the lake. Sunday, today, so far has been a vastly different story. Temperatures have struggled to or have yet to reach 60ºF across most of southeastern Wisconsin with rain falling for the last few hours.   Rain showers associated with a strong advance of warm air north (warm air advection) and a fair amount of mid level atmospheric spin (vorticity) are making their way out of the area to our northeast and north as we approach mid afternoon. Plenty of clouds are hanging around but there seems to be some clearing taking place in far southern Wisconsin, especially over Walmworth, Rock and Green Counties, creeping its way into Waukesha and Jefferson Counties. Behind this clearing, a new line of showers is developing across Lafayette County wo...

Another Round of Storms Possible For Southeastern Wisconsin Later This Evening

Image
05/24/24 Weather Outlook Southeastern Wisconsin by Aidan Cera We have already had a round of showers and thunderstorms make their way through southeastern Wisconsin earlier this morning into the early afternoon. This round has since departed and dissipated for the most part out over Lake Michigan as was expected. We are still seeing a good deal of cloud cover across southeastern Wisconsin however, which has stunted temperature rebound a fair bit after the surge of post storm rain cooled air. We are seeing thunderstorm redevelopment across far southwestern Wisconsin into eastern Iowa that will need to be watched over the next few hours as they track northeast.  Looking at current satellite imagery, there does appear to be increasing sunshine across Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties, which will likely soon work its way further north within the next hour or so.   The amount of clearing that we see through the remainder of the afternoon before the highly forced band...

Beautiful Weather Ahead!

Central Minnesota Weather Discussion 05/10/2024 By Aidan Cera  Good afternoon central Minnesota! It has been and will most likely continue to be an absolutely beautiful day outside with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 70ºF's! It is a bit breezy out there though, with winds shifting to the NW as a weak cold front passes through the area. There will be a small chance of an afternoon thunderstorm or too, but nothing widespread by any means.  Looking out the window right now, we have winds shifting to more of a northwest direction as a cold front currentling passing over the Twin Cities makes its way through. A cumulus field is beginning to develop behind this cold front and make its way southward (can see a few fair weather cumulus outside my window as I type this). These cumulus will stick around for the rest of the day and may become more agitated as the day progresses and daytime heating destabilizes the atmosphere. There might be just enough destabilization f...
