Temperatures/Humidity Climbs, Minor Storm Chances Through Week

 06/10/2024 Southeastern Wisconsin Weather Outlook

Aidan Cera

It was a relatively cool day compared to average across southeastern Wisconsin with plenty of sunshine. This helped offset the cooler temperatures and gave us the pleasant feeling outside that many likely experienced. Once again, a lake breeze has developed this afternoon heading into the evening and is slowly advancing west cooling off our lakeshore counties.

Skies will remain clear the rest of this evening and into the overnight hours as high pressure passes over the area, with light winds and lows dropping into the upper to mid 40ºF's. We will begin to see clouds increase into later tonight as a disturbance currently located over over central South and North Dakota pushes east. Heading into tomorrow morning, we will likely see increasing clouds but should remain dry. The best chance for any remnant showers from this disturbance across southeastern Wisconsin will be in the afternoon. Any showers that are able to hold on will be light in nature and will not wash out our afternoon. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 70ºF's across all of southeastern Wisconsin.

Skies will clear Tuesday night as lows drop down to around 60ºF across the area. Wednesday we are really going to notice temperatures warming as winds shift out of the south and bring warm, moist air up from the Gulf of Mexico. Highs will surge up into the low to mid 80ºF's with sunny skies.

Heading into Wednesday Night, I will be watching another disturbance track across Minnesota and Iowa which may bring a significant severe weather threat to those areas. By the time it reaches us, it will mostly likely have fizzled out based on current guidance, yet I cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm late Wednesday Night into Thursday Morning.

Thursday into the afternoon we will likely see more sunshine than clouds with warm and humid conditions, with highs in the mid to upper 80ºF's with dew points in the upper 60ºF's to lower 70ºF's. There is a conditional chance for severe thunderstorm development in the afternoon, particular south of I-94 and east of I-39. This threat will largely depend on the timing of the cold front passage as well as any pre-existing boundaries that set themselves up earlier in the day. Therefore there is still great uncertainty, but odds favor a mostly dry day across southeastern Wisconsin on Thursday.

A cooler weekend lies ahead after the cold front passes through, with sunny skies to end the week and start the weekend. Heading toward the end of the weekend and into early next week, there is great uncertainty in whether or not we see quite, hot and humid weather return or if we see more stormy weather along with those hot and humid conditions. A classic "ring of fire" pattern has been hinted at by the models for some time, but there is still disagreement in terms of where the storm parade sets up and who gets drenched and who sees very little precipitation at all.

Odds currently favor southeastern Wisconsin staying dry through much of this period as of right now. But I will be keeping a close eye on this pattern more toward this weekend.
